If you’re wanting engagement photos with the most perfect Colorado vibes, Rocky Mountain National Park will fit exactly that. And even better, plan a proposal with the most beautiful backdrop!
Rocky Mountain National Park Proposal
This RMNP proposal still gives all the feels! Zack reached out after being referred to me by a friend. He and his then girlfriend, also named Lauren, were traveling in from out of town. He wanted to pop the question during their stay in Colorado, which I absolutely loved!
I worked together with Zack, along with Lauren’s best friend, Alyssa, to plan and make sure this proposal went smoothly. Alyssa and her boyfriend, Andrew, were in town for another wedding and wanted to surprise Lauren after Zack popped the question. Thankfully, she was able to keep tabs on their locations to keep me in the loop, and be fully prepared. Especially with Zack getting pulled dover on the way in, causing a little delay (lol).
But thankfully, everything ended up going according to plan and Lauren was completely surprised when Zack got down on one knee! They celebrated together and shortly after we heard a loud scream from Alyssa running towards them. And again, Lauren was so shocked!
It was such a special occasion to capture and these two were the sweetest couple!
How to Plan a Proposal at Rocky Mountain National Park
Here are a few tips for planning a proposal in Rocky Mountain National Park to make sure you’re prepared!
Plan with your photographer: They’re the person that knows the location and can make sure it fits within your vision. And they have to make sure they are hidden well to keep the surprise!
You may need a timed entry and special permit: Depending on both the time of year and the part of the park you want to pop the question, you may need these. You can find information here to help ensure you are fully prepared!
Factor in parking and hiking times: You want to ensure that your photographer has plenty of time to reach the location, but also aren’t waiting for too long! Work with your photographer who knows the area and come up with a solid schedule.
Consider handing the ring off to your photographer: If you don’t want to risk carrying around the box and making it obvious, arrive early or plan something in advance to get the ring to the photographer and have a plan of where you can find the ring in the chosen location. This works great if you have photos planned and want to pop the question during your session!
Plan for outfit changes: You want to be able to capture some beautiful photos after you propose, so be prepared by bringing along some outfits for your significant other. Involve someone you can trust to help you pick them out!
Enjoy the rest of the session! This is a big occasion filled with so much excitement, so after there’s a “yes”, it’s time to capture some photos to remember these moments forever!
Rocky Mountain National Park Proposal Locations
RMNP is filled with gorgeous backdrops and so many choices for a beautiful proposal! Here are a few of my favorites.
Sprague Lake: (where this proposal was done!) It’s easy access with the dock area that is perfect for both a proposal or a ceremony
Dream Lake: This is a longer hike with the most spectacular views & I’m obsessed!
Tuxedo Park: Hang out by the stream and play on the rocks or adventure in the grassy hills
Trail Ridge Road: There are a lot of locations along this road, which is more popular at sunset
Alberta Falls: Relatively easy hike to the falls and the views along the way are stunning
