The best thing about Lake Tahoe is that it is filled with tons of gorgeous locations for photos, all equally beautiful in their own way. But here are a few of my favorites!

1. Sand Harbor State Park

Nestled on the northeastern shores of Lake Tahoe, Sand Harbor State Park is a location that feels like stepping into a postcard. Its crystal-clear waters and dramatic granite boulders create the most dreamy setting. The sandy beaches are perfect for capturing barefoot strolls, while the rocks add a fun and adventurous touch.

Golden hour here is unbeatable, with soft hues reflecting off the lake’s surface and the surrounding pine trees make a perfect addition to the background. This is an extremely popular spot in the summertime, so avoid this time of year if you can or opt for a weekday at sunrise!

2. Zephyr Cove

Zephyr Cove, located on the southeastern side of the lake, is a perfect blend of sandy beaches and lush pine forests. The area is extremely peaceful with creates a magical and romantic setting. The tall pines provide a natural canopy, offering shade and as the sun sets, the beach is covered in that gorgeous golden hue. For couples wanting variety, Zephyr Cove provides both open spaces and secluded nooks. It’s a location that brings together the best of Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere.

3. Bonsai Rock

Bonsai Rock is a hidden treasure just north of Sand Harbor. The small, tree-topped boulder surrounded by still waters creates a scene that’s uniquely beautiful. The short hike to reach the spot adds an element of adventure, and the payoff is a setting that feels exclusive and magical. Some roads are also closed, so keep this in mind for choosing a location!

The weather is mild, offering a comfortable experience for outdoor photos, although it can still be a bit unpredictable with the chance of rain. Early spring could still mean trails and areas being muddy from the melting snow, so consider a late spring session to avoid this!

Summer at Lake Tahoe brings warm, sunny days and lush landscapes, making it an ideal time for outdoor engagement photos. The clear, vibrant blue water and green forests create a stunning backdrop for your pictures. The main drawback of summer is the crowds. Lake Tahoe is a popular tourist destination, so you will have to keep this in mind when planning your session to avoid having an audience and getting more privacy for your session. You can opt for another season, do an early or late summer session (when schools have started up again!) or find a weekday at sunrise!

Fall

Fall is one of the most stunning times to visit Lake Tahoe, as the trees burst into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow.
